Our Vision. Inspiring a love of golf that lasts a lifetime

Why golf is great for children

Golf is a fantastic sport for a boys and girls to play; children can learn essential life lessons while playing the game and having fun such as respect perseverance, honesty, problem solving, sportsmanship and discipline.

The Junior Academy

The Junior Academy offers the total package for boy and girl golfers of all abilities who share a desire to improve.

The Junior Academy Director – Stefan Ackermann – PGA Professional

Stefan was born in South Africa where he developed a keen interest in the game of golf and started playing at a young age. After completing the PGA Diploma at Centurion Academy he then continued acquiring further practical experience through Irene Country Club, where he had been a member since his junior days. In 2015 he joined the PGA of South Africa and he continued his development, becoming a full member in 2016.
Whilst working at Irene Country Club he particularly enjoyed junior coaching sessions at weekends and helping to grow the game. In 2016 he moved to the United Arab Emirates and worked in the golf industry in Abu Dhabi. There he enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the HSBC Championship Tournament.
Stefan is a very active and enthusiastic professional who is passionate about golf and is eager to grow the game. He aims to get more people of all age groups, genders and ethnic backgrounds playing the game of golf. He will have an open timetable to fit in lessons for all levels of golfer, from the beginner to the most experienced.
Stefan said, “I am really excited to be part of Dungannon Golf Club and I’m looking forward to a busy year helping the members improve any aspect of their game.”

Junior Golf Passport

The Fun way to Learn Golf

The Junior Golf Passport is the national structured learning programme for children aged 6-10 years, endorsed by the PGA.

The multi-layered programme progresses a complete novice golfer into a junior golfer ready for membership at a golf club.Through this course, students have the opportunity to push their skills, techniques and confidence to a new level in a fun, dynamic way.

The programme is presented as both a physical and web based resource using both formats to track performance and progression. The programme is delivered in 6-week blocks covering a subject each week with a festival in week 6 to allow the child to play competition-based games in a fun environment.

Friendly Get Togethers

Unlike many golf programs, our commitment to junior development doesn’t stop at the practice tee or driving range. We want our juniors on the course and playing, so we arrange friendly get togethers where juniors can meet at a set time and play some holes on our course under the supervision of one of our PGA Professional, Sean Morrison and our volunteers.

Summer Competitions

During the summer months we hold various competitions on our 18 hole course. There is a variety of formats including, singles, pairs, teams and flag golf, all designed to allow our juniors to test themselves while still retaining the fun factor.

When a young player uses clubs that are fit based on their height and skill level, they will learn to swing naturally, while increasing their swing speed and developing good habits.
